Introduction.
Artist Nguyen Thanh Binh is a special person with a special style, and a simple, open-minded and sincere personality. He is one of the few best-selling Vietnamese painters with more than 40 years of painting and thousands of works collected.
Binh's paintings are always full of emotion, he shows his talent in every detail and in the ability to harmonise simple colors expressively, of which the white color often plays the leading role. The art critic Thai Ba Van once commented: 'The white color of Nguyen Thanh Binh seems out of the real life which is noisy and harsh. The image of Nguyen Thanh Binh's painting is not leaning to the objective world but introverted. There is a bit of Eastern breath'.
Nguyen Thanh Binh often paints women and children since 'my painting style is inclined to show emotion, and emphasize sexy beauty. Drawing women and children allows me to express those states in my own way'. He is well known for his works depicting female figures wearing the white Ao Dai dress. His landscape paintings touch viewers by the simplified landscape, deep colors and light sadness.
He prefers the simplicity in layout, the conciseness in depiction, no appearance of many figures and colors in the paintings. As a Haiku poem, 'a Haiku is a very small poem containing only three lines, but it’s meaning is enormous. Paintings can also convey an immense significance with few colors and details', says Binh.
Although Binh has been influenced by western art and its aesthetics, his art falls well within the philosophical and aesthetic sphere of Orient. He wants to express the happiness and sorrow of the Vietnamese souls in his artworks.
